PI is manufactured as large rectangular buns, typically 4 ft wide<br \/>\nx 8 ft long x 5-30 inches tall, in a range of densities. Prior to actual<br \/>\ninstallation, buns are fabricated into various shapes, including flat sheets<br \/>\nand preformed pipe half-shells designed to fit over NPS pipe and tubing.<br \/>\nComplex shapes also can be fabricated to fit tightly around fittings, elbows,<br \/>\nand other equipment. ASTM material specification C 1482 covers PI insulation at<br \/>\nservice temperatures from -328\u00b0F to +572\u00b0F.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style=':justify'><span style='-size:10.0pt'>ASTM<br \/>\nC1482 defines the requirements for density, thermal conductivity, acoustic<br \/>\nabsorption, thermal stability, flammability, smoke density, smoke toxicity,<br \/>\nchemical resistance, corrosiveness, and mechanical properties. This ASTM spec<br \/>\nlists two grades and four types of PI foam, but the following three types are<br \/>\nmost commonly used for commercial and industrial applications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/io\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/10\/Nov2012_chart1.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p class=BasicParagraph style=':justify'><span style='-size:10.0pt;\nline-height:120%;-family:\"Calibri\",\"sans-serif\";color:windowtext'>Key<br \/>\napplications for PI foam include thermal and acoustic insulation for HVAC and<br \/>\nindustrial equipment, acoustic duct liner, high temperature pipe insulation,<br \/>\nand expansion joints for cryogenic facilities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=BasicParagraph style=':justify'><span style='-size:10.0pt;\nline-height:120%;-family:\"Calibri\",\"sans-serif\";color:windowtext'>The<br \/>\nuse of an appropriate vapor retarder is required in all applications where<br \/>\ncondensation could occur.
