NIA is accepting applications from NIA member companies for the 2017 Theodore H. Brodie Distinguished Safety Award until January 31, 2018. NIA’s Safety Award is the only national award for outstanding safety performance in the mechanical insulation industry. Honoring safety leaders for more than a decade, the program recognizes top companies that have established structured safety programs to ensure the well-being of their employees and create safe working environments.
NIA’s Safety Award program strives to both recognize our members’ safety programs and provide feedback from safety professionals to all applicants through the STAR (Safety Training Analysis Results) Report to help our members take their programs to the next level, ensuring a safe workplace for all employees.
About the Award
- Safety Award categories correspond with your company’s NIA membership category and include: Associate (Manufacturer), Contractor, Distributor/Fabricator, and Metal Building Laminator.
- For each application category, there are 4 levels of excellence: Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze, depending on the score your program receives.
- Winners will be recognized at NIA’s 63rd Annual Convention in Orlando, Florida, on April 19, 2018, and receive a plaque or certificate. Winners are promoted in a press release, NIA News, and Insulation Outlook
- Winners receive the safety award winner logo for their own website, email, and marketing purposes, and also earn the privilege to use the new Safety Award Winner hard hat stickers.
STAR Report
All applicants receive an individualized and detailed STAR Report, which is a document prepared by NIA’s General Counsel Gary Auman of Auman, Mahan & Furry. The STAR Report contains valuable feedback and recommendations that can be implemented immediately to increase safety awareness and improve the company’s safety culture.
NIA’s Health and Safety Committee helps guide and oversee the safety award program, and this year made significant changes to all category applications. Health and Safety Committee Chair Bill McCaffrey of Irex Contracting Group explained, “Working together to make improvements and add value to NIA’s Safety Award, members of the Health and Safety Committee overhauled all of the applications to focus on evaluating different components of safety programs from previous years. Through the STAR Report, all applicants will get meaningful feedback on different elements of their company’s safety program this year. The STAR Report is a valuable member benefit, and we are confident that you will improve your safety program through participation in NIA’s Safety Award.”
Back by Popular Demand: Safety Award Hard Hat Stickers
Introduced last year, the new Safety Award Hard Hat stickers will be made available to all winners again this year. The stickers were a hugely popular addition to the program and allow employees to proudly display this national honor.
For member companies that have never applied or for anyone wanting assistance with the application, NIA offers a mentor program to help guide you through the steps.
