Thermal Insulation Inspector Certification Use and Professional Conduct Guidelines

NIA Certified Thermal Insulation Inspectors™ (Inspectors) are expected to uphold ethical standards and responsible use of their certifications. 

To help maintain the integrity of NIA’s certification programs, after the successful completion of the course, NIA provides guidelines outlining the proper use of certifications, certificates, logos, and professional designations, as well as acceptable and prohibited uses. These standards help ensure that certifications continue to represent trusted, consistent, and credible industry qualifications.

The following guidelines outline acceptable practices, prohibited practices, and important responsibilities associated with maintaining certification status.

Professional Responsibilities as a Certified Thermal Insulation Inspectors™

  • Maintain active certification status by recertifying every 3 years
  • Use certification logos properly and in accordance with NIA’s usage policies
  • Represent credentials accurately and perform inspections honestly, ethically, and to the best of your abilities
  • Maintain integrity and accuracy in all documentation, reporting, measurements, calculations, observations, and findings
  • Follow established inspection procedures, safety requirements, ethical standards, and industry best practices
  • Act as an independent party to inspect, verify, document, and report findings objectively
  • Stay within the scope of your certification, training, and qualifications
  • Keep contact information updated with NIA for use on NIA’s Find an Inspector web pages (email training@insulation.org to update your information)

Prohibited Practices as a Certified Thermal Insulation Inspectors™

  • Misrepresent your certification status
  • Use expired certifications or logos
  • Alter, modify, falsify, or misrepresent certification documents, expiration dates, or certificate years
  • Falsify inspection data or energy savings numbers
  • Alter reports to satisfy clients or customers
  • Sign off on inspections you did not complete
  • Skip required inspection procedures
  • Allow another individual to use your certification
  • Share proprietary templates, training, course, or exam materials
  • Behave in a manner that damages the credibility of NIA certification programs

NIA takes all concerns related to certification misuse, unethical behavior, falsified reporting, or misrepresentation of credentials seriously.
