Reston, VA—December 5, 2016—The National Insulation Association (NIA) is now accepting applications for the 2016 Theodore H. Brodie Distinguished Safety Award, which is the only national award for outstanding safety performance in the mechanical insulation industry. Honoring safety leaders for more than a decade, NIA’s Safety Award recognizes top NIA member companies that have established structured safety programs to ensure the well-being of their employees and create safe working environments.

The award program honors 4 levels of excellence: Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze in 4 categories: Associates (Manufacturers), Contractors, Distributors/Fabricators, and Metal Building Laminators.

NIA’s Safety Award program strives to both recognize our members’ safety programs and also to provide feedback from safety professionals to all applicants through the STAR (Safety Training Analysis Results) Report to help our members take their programs to the next level, ensuring a safe workplace for all employees. The STAR Report is filled with detailed feedback and suggestions based on answers from the application questions.

Health and Safety Committee Chair Bill McCaffrey of Irex Contracting Group said, “We encourage all members to apply for the Safety Award to spotlight your company’s commitment to safety. If you’ve never applied, we have a new mentor program to help guide you through the steps. The feedback your company receives through the STAR Report is a valuable member benefit, and we are confident that you will improve your safety program through participation in NIA’s Safety Award.”

NIA’s Executive Vice President/CEO Michele M. Jones added, “We were thrilled to set a new record of Platinum winners and to increase the total number of Contractor applicant companies last year. NIA applauds our member companies that make safety a top priority.”

Throughout the judging process, applicant companies remain anonymous and are evaluated on the basis of their overall safety program, means of communication, and safety policy. A company’s safety record is not submitted, and safety programs are not judged against other member companies. A completed application form with the $250 application processing fee must be received by January 31, 2017. To encourage new participants, first-time applicants receive a 50% discount, making the application fee $125. This award program is open to NIA members only.

Applications and detailed instructions are available on NIA’s new website at www.Insulation.org. For questions, please contact Aimee Doyle at adoyle@insulation.org or 703-464-6422, ext. 113.
